[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, appointed Jeong Jin-sang, former Gyeonggi-do Policy Chief, as the Chief Political Coordination Officer for the party leader. Kim Byung-gi, a Democratic Party lawmaker, was appointed as the Senior Deputy Secretary-General of the party.


Lim Oh-kyung, Democratic Party spokesperson, said on the 14th after the Supreme Council meeting, "Former Deputy Chief Jeong has been designated as the Deputy Chief of the Secretary Office for the party leader," adding, "His official title is Chief Political Coordination Officer."


Typically, appointments for the party leader’s Chief Political Coordination Officer are not publicly announced, but due to intense media interest in Jeong, the spokesperson made the announcement. Jeong served as Policy Chief of Seongnam City and Gyeonggi-do and is regarded as Lee’s close confidant.


Kim Byung-gi, a two-term lawmaker, was appointed as Senior Deputy Secretary-General. Kim is considered a key aide who supported Lee in the last presidential election and the recent party convention.


Han Min-su, former Chief Public Relations Secretary to the Speaker of the National Assembly, was appointed as an external spokesperson.


Byun Jae-il was appointed Chair of the National Economic Advisory Council, Yoon Ho-jung as Chair of the Foreign Affairs, Security, and Unification Advisory Council, and Ahn Kyu-baek as Chair of the National Functional Representatives Council. Hong Young-pyo took the role of Chair of the National Integration Committee. Hwang Hee, a two-term lawmaker, was appointed Chair of the International Committee, Yang Seung-jo, former Governor of Chungnam, as Chair of the Committee for Better Local Governments, and Min Byung-duk and Lee Dong-joo as co-chairs of the Small Business Committee.


The Policy Committee’s Policy Coordination Chairs appointed were Ki Dong-min (1st Policy Coordination), Kim Byung-joo (2nd), Shin Dong-geun (3rd), Kim Han-jung (4th), Choi In-ho (5th), Kang Hoon-sik (6th), and Kim Young-ho (7th). Choi Ki-sang was appointed head of the Ethics Inspection Team.


At the meeting, 15 standing advisors and 24 advisors were appointed. The standing advisors are: Kwon No-gap, Kim Won-ki, Moon Hee-sang, Park Byeong-seok, Song Young-gil, Oh Chung-il, Lee Nak-yeon, Lee Yong-deuk, Lee Yong-hee, Lee Hae-chan, Lim Chae-jung, Jeong Dae-cheol, Jeong Dong-young, Jeong Se-gyun, and Chu Mi-ae. The advisors are: Kim Ok-du, Kim Jang-gon, Kim Cheol-bae, Kim Tae-rang, Nam Goong-jin, Park Gwang-tae, Bae Jong-moo, Baek Jae-hyun, Seo Jong-yeol, Seo Ho-seok, Shim Jae-kwon, Won Hye-young, Yoo Yong-geun, Lee Gil-jae, Lee Mi-kyung, Lee Seok-hyun, Lee Jong-gul, Lee Hyup, Lim Bok-jin, Jang Jae-sik, Jeong Dong-chae, Choi Bong-gu, Han Won-seok, and Hong Jae-hyung.
