[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) held the “Spending Chuseok Together, Sharing Songpyeon” event on the morning of the 5th at the Korean Red Cross Dongdaemun Volunteer Sharing Center to celebrate Chuseok.
At the event, about 20 people including Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, and volunteers from the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association gathered to carefully package holiday foods such as songpyeon, hangwa, and fruits.
The packaged holiday foods were immediately delivered to 240 households in the area who are socially marginalized or recipients of side dish support.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We prepared holiday foods together with volunteers to convey the warmth of neighbors to residents who feel lonelier during the holidays,” and added, “We hope you enjoy the prepared food and have a warm Chuseok holiday.”

Warm hands reaching out to share a bountiful holiday with neighbors are spreading throughout the region in celebration of Chuseok.
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced that residents are stepping up to donate kimchi, Chuseok gift sets, and daily necessities to neighbors in need.
First, in Mangu-bon-dong, the Mangu-bon-dong Happiness Sharing Council organized the production of “Happiness Packages” for Chuseok, which were delivered to 50 vulnerable households including elderly living alone. The happiness packages consisted of 11 daily necessities such as hangwa, misutgaru (grain powder), beef bone soup, beef porridge, and seaweed soup.
On the same day, abundant Chuseok sharing continued in Sinnae 2-dong. The Sinnae 2-dong Happiness Sharing Council, Sinnae Senior Welfare Center, and the University of Seoul Comprehensive Social Welfare Center joined forces to deliver Chuseok gift sets containing cooking oil and canned tuna to 405 low-income vulnerable households.
Additionally, members of the Sinnae 2-dong Hyo Sarang Volunteer Society made young radish kimchi and personally delivered a total of 230kg of kimchi to eight local senior centers and 50 households struggling to prepare side dishes.
On the 5th, the Small Love Sharing Movement Headquarters sent 200 Happy Sharing Boxes worth 14.3 million KRW containing sauces, retort foods, yugwa (traditional Korean sweets), ramen, and hand sanitizers, while Jeongho Enterprise donated 1,000 bags of 10kg white rice worth 26 million KRW.
The sharing boxes will be distributed to low-income households in welfare blind spots, and the rice will be donated to the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “We feel the warm hearts conveyed through overflowing affection. I sincerely thank the local organizations, businesses, and residents who selflessly shared and worked hard, always thinking of their neighbors first,” and added, “I hope the delivered items will help vulnerable groups who are struggling more due to high prices, so that everyone can enjoy a bountiful holiday together.”
As the Chuseok holiday approaches, thoughtful care for neighbors in need continues throughout Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong).
First, the district will provide substitute meals to emergency care recipients who may face food shortages during the Chuseok holiday. Over two days, from the 7th to the 8th, about 50 recipients will receive instant rice, soup, and snacks to ensure they have a hearty holiday.
Companies, organizations, and churches have also stepped forward. The Hoehyeon-dong Community Security Council and Dasan-dong Freedom Federation share songpyeon and check on low-income elderly residents. Namsan Nanum Church (Senior Pastor Kim Tae-gi) practices neighborly love by delivering 100 boxes of anchovies to basic livelihood security recipients and others.
On September 5th, 10 members of the Seoul Hanyang Lions Club participated in sharing by delivering rice and soy milk to 20 low-income households at the Sindang Nuri Center.
Hotel Shilla (CEO Lee Boo-jin), Paradise (CEO Choi Sung-wook), and individual sponsor Kim Han-sul also actively contributed rice, gift certificates, and groceries to help ensure a rich Chuseok for neighbors in need.
An elderly recipient of the songpyeon said with a smile, “Although it’s Chuseok, I didn’t have any special expectations, but I’m thankful because I can feel the holiday spirit with the songpyeon.”
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “The holiday period can be a time when loneliness deepens for marginalized neighbors, so I hope the care and attention given throughout the district reach their hearts,” and added, “I am grateful to the companies, organizations, and residents who readily offered help despite the economic downturn.”
