[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] As Typhoon No. 11 'Hinnamnor' is approaching, Jung-gu (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) has fully entered an emergency preparedness posture to ensure the safety of residents and facilities.

This typhoon is expected to make landfall in a condition stronger than the historically most powerful typhoons to hit Korea, 'Sarah' and 'Maemi,' raising concerns about significant damage. It is anticipated to have the greatest impact on the Seoul metropolitan area on the 5th and 6th.

Accordingly, the district held an emergency countermeasure meeting with related departments at the Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room and began pre-inspections of facilities vulnerable to wind and flood damage.

First, public officials responsible for caring for flood-vulnerable households conducted on-site inspections by directly checking the households and surrounding conditions, and plan to maintain continuous communication and management.

In particular, a comprehensive inspection will be conducted on 451 facilities vulnerable to typhoons and flood damage. Focused management will be on disaster-prone areas such as low-lying habitual flood zones, steep slopes, aging retaining walls, and construction sites.

Additionally, public officials in charge of rainwater drains and sanitation workers will patrol to check the drainage status of rainwater inlets and remove covers. To ensure timely deployment to flooded households, the district and local community centers will also verify the operational status of 237 pumps they possess.

To prepare for strong winds, the fastening conditions of banners, signboards, rooftop sculptures, and traffic signs will be checked, and garbage disposal will be temporarily banned the day before the typhoon. When the typhoon makes full landfall, emergency duty teams will be organized to manage construction sites and vulnerable facilities for emergency operations.

The district office will operate the Wind and Flood Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, while local community centers will monitor rainfall and typhoon trends according to emergency duty levels to prepare for urgent situations. The Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room will monitor rainfall and reservoir water levels via CCTV and keep emergency response teams on standby.

Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "We will devote all efforts to pre-inspections so that residents can remain safe and unafraid despite the powerful typhoon."
