[Featured Stock] Deoksan Tecopia, Core Material for Secondary Batteries Begins Full Growth... Expansion of New Mass Production Plant

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] Duksan Tecopia is showing strong performance. It appears to be gaining attention as the importance of domestic production of secondary battery materials increases.

As of 12:01 PM on the 31st, Duksan Tecopia is trading at 19,250 KRW, up 18.1% from the previous day.

Duksan Tecopia operates in the organic materials business, a key component of OLED displays. In 2016, it merged with Duksan UMT and entered the semiconductor electronic materials chemical products (precursors) business. Semiconductor precursors are materials used in the deposition process that remain on semiconductor circuits or serve as sacrificial films.

Duksan Tecopia is currently expanding its new factory in preparation for mass production of secondary battery electrolyte additives. Secondary batteries are rechargeable batteries that enable charging and discharging through multiple oxidation and reduction processes between current and materials. The four core materials that make up secondary batteries are cathode materials, separators, anode materials, and electrolytes.

Secondary battery manufacturers are continuously developing materials to increase the capacity per individual cell. The main functions of electrolyte additives are to improve battery life, enhance charge/discharge efficiency, and suppress low-temperature discharge. The secondary battery market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of about 28% (by capacity) until 2030, driven by the acceleration of global eco-friendly policies. Growth in the materials market is also anticipated.

Duksan Tecopia began small-scale mass production of liquid electrolyte additives from the third quarter of 2021. Since this is included in other segment sales, it has not yet contributed significantly to overall performance.

Kim Kyungmin, a researcher at the Korea IR Association, stated, "The final products to which the additives are applied are also newly launched, so continuous increases in usage and growth can be expected." He added, "Separately, Duksan Tecopia’s subsidiary, Duksan Electera (with a 50.4% stake), is pursuing the manufacturing of electrolytes for secondary batteries."

Duksan Electera was established in April 2021. To meet increasing product demand and production volume, it is continuously improving and expanding its facilities. It is building a new factory in preparation for mass production of secondary battery electrolyte additives.
