[2023 Early Admission] Soongsil University Adjusts Minimum CSAT Requirements for Student Record and Essay Excellence Tracks

[2023 Early Admission] Soongsil University Adjusts Minimum CSAT Requirements for Student Record and Essay Excellence Tracks

Soonchunhyang University will select 1,787 students, accounting for 58% of the 2023 academic year recruitment quota, through early admission. This year’s early admission features adjustments to the minimum CSAT score requirements for the Student Record Excellence Track and the Essay Excellence Track, and the SW Specialist Track will be changed to the Comprehensive Student Record Track for SW Excellence.

In the SSU Future Talent Track, Soonchunhyang University’s representative early admission track, 618 students will be selected. In the first stage, evaluation is based 100% on documents (three times the number of candidates to be selected), and in the second stage, selection is based on 70% of the first stage score and 30% interview. There is no minimum CSAT score requirement, and candidates with high interest and passion for their major are sought. The Comprehensive Student Record Track (for graduates of specialized high schools currently employed) has changed to selecting successful candidates based solely on 100% document review. The Comprehensive Student Record Track (for underrepresented groups) will recruit 136 students, which is a relatively large number compared to major universities in the metropolitan area.

The SW Specialist Track will be changed to the Comprehensive Student Record Track (SW Excellence), with the number of recruits remaining the same as last year at 25. In the first stage, candidates are selected based 100% on documents (three times the number of candidates to be selected), and in the next stage, evaluation is based on 70% of the first stage score and 30% blind interview. The minimum CSAT score requirement does not apply.

The Student Record Excellence Track will select 447 students this year, a slight decrease from last year. Applicants must receive a principal’s recommendation to apply, and there is no limit on the number of recommendations. The selection method remains the same as last year, based 100% on student record academic grades, reflecting 80% common subjects and general electives, and 20% career elective subjects. The weighting of student record subjects varies by recruitment unit (department).

The number of recruits for the Essay Excellence Track decreased by 12 from the previous year to 269. The evaluation reflects 60% essay and 40% student record academic grades, and the essay test type (integrated subject type) remains the same as before.

The minimum CSAT score requirements for the Student Record and Essay Excellence Tracks have changed significantly from last year. For the humanities and business administration fields, the requirement changed from a total of 6 or less in two of three subjects (Korean, Math, and two science subjects) to a total of 4 or less in two of four subjects (Korean, Math, English, and one science subject). For the natural sciences field, it changed from a total of 7 or less in two of three subjects (Korean, Math, and two science subjects) to a total of 5 or less in two of four subjects (Korean, Math, English, and one science subject). Since the English subject is included and only the top one science subject is reflected, the number of cases meeting the minimum score requirement will increase significantly.

In the Arts and Physical Education Excellence Track (Physical Education), outstanding talents in billiards will be selected, reflecting 60% performance, 20% interview, and 20% student record. In the Arts and Physical Education Excellence Track (Acting), the first stage evaluates 60% practical skills and 40% student record academic grades to select four times the number of candidates to be admitted, and the second stage reflects 80% practical skills and 20% student record academic grades. The Arts and Physical Education Excellence Track (Directing) will be selected through early admission starting this year.
