Dancing Live on Internet in India
77 Sexual Crime Cases Reported Daily in India
Netizens Concerned "Really Dangerous" After Watching Broadcast
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] Controversy has arisen over Korean female BJs dancing on the streets of India wearing revealing outfits. Despite being in crowded places such as buses and subways, they showed no concern, raising fears that they might be exposed to sexual crimes in India, where sexual violence occurs frequently. On the other hand, some criticize that they brought this upon themselves.
Two BJs operating channels on AfreecaTV live-streamed video content titled "Riding the Train to Hell in India" on the 28th. They aroused netizens' concerns by engaging in somewhat risky behavior, such as dancing in the middle of the streets of India.
The BJs wore revealing clothes like bra tops and performed sexy dances, even making gestures that zoomed in on specific parts of their bodies toward the camera.
Indian men around them showed interest by filming the video with cameras or crossing their arms and watching. Later, the content quickly spread on online communities under the title "Current Status of Life-Risking Afreeca Broadcast." Netizens who saw the video expressed worried reactions such as "Doing that in India?", "Really dangerous," and "Do they have two lives?"
◆ An average of 77 sexual crimes per day... Sexual violence against minors as well
It is known that about 30,000 sexual assault cases occur annually in India. Although calls to eradicate sexual violence have grown and punishments have been strengthened, it is understood that about 77 sexual crimes occur daily.
In June, two sisters aged 17 and 15 reported being sexually assaulted for a year by two men in their 20s living in the same area, and earlier in May, a 17-year-old woman was gang-raped by five men.
Also, a 17-year-old woman living in northern Bihar lost consciousness after drinking a beverage given by a bus driver and was gang-raped by four men, including the bus driver, the conductor who assisted the bus operation, and an assistant.
The gang rape incident on the bus drew even more outrage as it reminded people of the ‘2012 New Delhi case,’ which shocked all of India.
In 2012, six men gang-raped a 23-year-old woman on a bus, mutilated her body, and she died 13 days later. This case shocked not only India but the entire world.
