[Featured Stock] A-Tech Solution Rises 5% on Samsung's 'Lidar Investment' News

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] A-Tech Solution's stock price is on the rise on the 25th. This is interpreted as a result of news that Samsung's venture capital 'Samsung Venture Investment' invested in Microsoft (MS) founder Bill Gates and the U.S. LiDAR semiconductor developer 'Lumotive.' It appears that the investment was made focusing on the growth potential of the LiDAR market, which is increasingly adopted in autonomous vehicles and robots.

Lumotive announced on the 24th (local time) that it "has closed a strategic funding round led by Samsung Venture Investment." Gates, Thailand's Himax Technology, Switzerland's Quan Fund, and the U.S. Meta VC Partners also participated. Founded in 2018, Lumotive develops LCM (Light Control Metasurface) chips used in next-generation LiDAR. It achieves low power consumption, low cost, and miniaturization, collaborating with 24 global companies. Earlier this year, at the world's largest IT and electronics exhibition 'CES 2022,' Lumotive showcased vehicle headlights equipped with LiDAR sensors in partnership with LG Electronics' automotive lighting subsidiary ZKW.

Accordingly, expectations for benefits to A-Tech Solution are forming. It is interpreted that there is anticipation that A-Tech Solution, in which Samsung Electronics is the second-largest shareholder, could benefit. Samsung Electronics holds a 15.92% stake in A-Tech Solution as the second-largest shareholder. As of 10 a.m. today, A-Tech Solution's stock price is trading at 13,600 KRW, up 5.43% from the previous trading day.

Meanwhile, Samsung Venture Investment is observed to have decided to invest due to the high growth potential of the LiDAR market. LiDAR is a sensor that emits lasers and receives reflected signals to detect the shape of objects. It can extract three-dimensional information more accurately than cameras or radar. It is used in various fields such as robot vacuum cleaners and autonomous vehicles, and the market is growing. Market research firm Yole D?veloppement forecasts that the LiDAR market size will reach $6 billion (approximately 8 trillion KRW) by 2024.
