Lee Jun-seok, Who Announced Injunction Application If Removed as Representative After Emergency Committee Launch
Seems to Show 'No Retreat' Resolve by Setting Press Conference Schedule
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, has announced a press conference scheduled for the 13th. Amid the People Power Party’s plan to initiate the ‘dismissal’ procedure against Lee through the launch of an emergency committee, he has hinted at political action by not ruling out the press conference itself.
On the 7th, Lee stated via social media (SNS), "The press conference will be held on August 13."
Earlier, through contact with the media, he had announced that he would file an injunction to suspend the effect immediately upon the resolution to appoint the emergency committee chairman, which would automatically decide his dismissal as party leader.
The People Power Party will hold a national committee meeting on the 9th via an automated response system (ARS) vote to begin the process of amending the party constitution. The amended constitution will allow Kwon Seong-dong, acting party leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, to appoint the emergency committee chairman. The existing constitution only permits the party leader or acting party leader to appoint the emergency committee chairman, which raised potential legal controversies regarding Kwon’s appointment authority.
Once the party constitution issue is resolved through the national committee meeting on the 9th, the People Power Party will begin selecting the emergency committee chairman and is expected to launch the committee through the standing national committee around the 12th at the earliest.
Lee’s announcement of the press conference on the 13th is interpreted as a preemptive legal and political response, anticipating the leadership’s launch around the 12th.
In particular, Lee’s explicit mention of the press conference on the 13th appears to demonstrate his unwavering determination not to step down without any change in circumstances.
