- Mobiltech Secures Numerous Projects in Digital Twin and Metaverse Fields with '3D Scanning-Based Immersive Digital Twin Production Technology'
- Immersive Content Featuring Key Attractions like Gangnam Station, Teheran-ro, and Hanok Village Scheduled to Launch Early 2023
AI-based 3D spatial information startup Mobiltech is gearing up to enter the digital twin market in earnest. The 3D precision maps created by Mobiltech will not only be used for autonomous driving but also to develop 3D immersive cities applied to urban management and utilized in extended reality (XR) metaverse construction projects. Mobiltech plans to expand business opportunities related to digital twin and metaverse by integrating various technologies such as its self-developed indoor and outdoor 3D scanning, sensor fusion, and AI automatic modeling.
Mobiltech participates in the 20 billion KRW-scale ‘2022 Smart City Challenge Main Project’ through the Pohang City consortium
The POSCO consortium, including Mobiltech (Pohang City, POSCO, Gyeongbuk Province, 42dot, etc.), was finally selected as the top site in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘2022 Smart City Challenge Main Project’ competition, securing 20 billion KRW in national funding. Mobiltech plans to equip local taxis with its self-developed Replica product (LiDAR data spatial information detection equipment) to crowdsource LiDAR data for the first time in Korea under the goal of ‘building a citizen-experience-based traffic and safety network.’
This product is expected not only to collect urban data but also to combine artificial intelligence and big data technologies to identify various urban issues such as potholes, illegal parking, and illegal dumping in real time, thereby contributing to solving diverse urban problems.
Mobiltech participates in the ‘K-Metaverse Platform’ project applicable across industries
In July, a metaverse consortium of six companies including Mobiltech was selected as the final project operator for the metaverse platform development project promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Radio Promotion Association (RAPA).
Mobiltech plans to use its self-developed Replica equipment to scan actual spaces in 3D and produce highly precise 3D point cloud maps within 3cm accuracy. Additionally, by applying immersive modeling using AI, it will build a digital twin identical to reality to provide a more immersive service. Through this project, Mobiltech aims to establish a standard model foundation for domestic digital twin construction methods.
Mobiltech selected as the final operator for ‘Development of Regional Specialized Metaverse Services for Regional Economic Revitalization’
Mobiltech has joined the ‘Development of Regional Specialized Metaverse Services for Regional Economic Revitalization’ project, selected under the ‘Metaverse Platform Development Support Project’ by a super-regional consortium (Jeonbuk, Gyeongbuk, Seoul consortium). This project aims to promote regional economic revitalization by building spatial information of the region and combining specialized industries with the metaverse in the created virtual space. Mobiltech plans to collaborate with the Seoul Business Agency to build immersive spaces starting with major landmarks and Hanok villages in Seoul, including the Seoul Animation Center, Jaemiro, and Jaemirang. Mobiltech’s 3D scanning and immersive modeling technologies will be utilized during construction. Furthermore, by leveraging various IPs such as webtoons and characters, services like games and experiences within the metaverse will be designed to deliver a more vivid experience to users.
Mobiltech’s 3D maps lead the ‘new normal’ in the tourism industry with metaverse construction around Jeungpyeong-gun
In February, Blackstone Edufarm Resort Co., Ltd. and Mobiltech signed a business agreement to build 3D point cloud maps and map update services. Using Mobiltech’s self-developed MMS (Mobile Mapping System) equipment, 3D point cloud maps will be constructed and immersive content services will be provided to tourists to offer differentiated tourism experiences. The established service is expected to expand into delivery robots, autonomous driving, and smart tourism, thereby creating a metaverse ecosystem.
‘Replica City’ expected to be used beyond digital twin to UAM maps
Mobiltech plans to seek opportunities to expand the Replica City project based on its 3D precision maps and digital twin-related projects. Currently, to differentiate from existing precision map companies and enhance services, it is applying immersive 3D model production technology to create more realistic cities. This immersive data is expected to expand services not only for autonomous vehicles but also for new markets such as virtual production, content creation, and urban air mobility (UAM). CEO Jaeseung Kim of Mobiltech stated, “We will strengthen cooperation not only with the autonomous vehicle industry but also with local governments and metaverse-related companies.” He added, “We have selected the Gangnam Station area as a demonstration site and are collecting data daily. We plan to enhance the service by the end of this year and showcase ‘Replica City Seoul’ at CES next year.”
