[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will proactively respond to the resurgence of COVID-19 by providing approximately 77,000 antigen self-test kits to vulnerable groups.
As the daily number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea surpassed 100,000 again for the first time in about three months since April, signs of a COVID-19 resurgence are emerging.
Moreover, on the 27th, the government announced sector- and department-specific plans emphasizing the “normalization of daily quarantine” instead of distancing regulations, highlighting the importance of individual voluntary quarantine more than ever.
Accordingly, the district will provide about 77,000 self-test kits to workers in vulnerable facilities and vulnerable groups. The recipients among workers in vulnerable facilities include ▲ staff and users of organizations and facilities for the disabled ▲ senior citizen center workers ▲ staff of Our Neighborhood Care Centers and local children’s centers.
In addition, vulnerable groups such as ▲ basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, severely disabled persons ▲ elderly nursing facilities ▲ infants and teachers at daycare centers will receive support.
Furthermore, the district will distribute about 4,800 self-test kits to frontline workers performing COVID-19 prevention and quarantine duties, including environmental public officers and public service personnel.
The self-test kits will be distributed through the district office’s relevant departments according to the target group, with distribution expected to be completed by the end of July.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Through proactive self-diagnosis of vulnerable groups, we can protect individual health and prevent the local spread of COVID-19. We will strive to protect the health and safety of residents through additional support if necessary.”
The district is also leading public quarantine promotion for residents in preparation for the COVID-19 resurgence by displaying banners encouraging the practice of daily quarantine and vaccination to overcome COVID-19.
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Ki-jae) announced that it will immediately operate a temporary screening clinic at Yangcheon-gu Mokdong Public Parking Lot (Mokdong 915, opposite Hyundai 41 Tower site) from the 29th to protect residents’ safety amid the resurgence of COVID-19.
With the reopening of this temporary screening clinic, Yangcheon-gu will operate two locations: the Yangcheon Public Health Center screening clinic and the temporary screening clinic at Mokdong Public Parking Lot.
The Mokdong Public Parking Lot temporary screening clinic will operate from Monday to Sunday (including holidays) from 1 PM to 9 PM, with testing paused for one hour from 5 PM for disinfection.
Located in a spacious parking lot, the temporary screening clinic offers high openness, minimizing contact among residents. It is also conveniently accessible near Omokgyo Station on Subway Line 5.
PCR testing targets include ▲ those with positive rapid antigen test results ▲ elderly aged 60 and above ▲ epidemiologically linked individuals (close contacts) ▲ persons related to vulnerable facilities. Proof verifying eligibility must be presented at testing. Those not in priority groups can receive rapid antigen tests at local clinics.
Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “To proactively respond to the rapid spread of COVID-19, we will operate the temporary screening clinic at Mokdong Public Parking Lot alongside the public health center screening clinic. We will do our utmost to prevent infectious disease spread, prioritizing residents’ health and safety.”
Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) received a scholarship fund of 50 million KRW from Kiturami Group (Chairman Choi Jin-min) on the 28th to foster local talent.
The scholarship will be awarded to a total of 44 students, including university and high school students in the area who are academically excellent, from low-income families, or recommended as exemplary students by school principals.
A representative of Kiturami Group said, “We hope that young students who will lead the future of South Korea can grow into local representatives by diligently pursuing their studies despite difficult circumstances.”
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you for supporting scholarships so that students do not face difficulties in their studies. We hope this scholarship sponsorship allows students to study without worries and pursue their dreams.”
Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will resume operations of the Sangbong Health Center located in the Sangbong 2-dong Complex Building (10 Dongil-ro 114-gil).
The Sangbong Health Center had suspended operations since February 2020 to focus on preventing and responding to infectious disease spread. The district expects that with the resumption, the health center will serve as a nearby dedicated health management institution for residents of Sangbong-dong and Myeonmok-dong.
In response to the increasing elderly population ratio and the rise of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the health center plans to conduct customized health projects involving local residents for systematic preparation.
First, various chronic disease prevention and management projects will be conducted. The metabolic syndrome management project, which tests five metabolic syndrome indicators?blood pressure, blood sugar, triglycerides, cholesterol, and waist circumference?and provides customized counseling based on results, will operate by appointment.
Among registered residents, those with high risk factors and who wish to consult a doctor can participate in the “Doctor Jungnang Health Salon,” receiving consultations on geriatric diseases, chronic diseases, and metabolic syndrome.
In addition, in September, the district plans to conduct the “Nutrition and Exercise Sangbong Class,” selecting local residents to provide proper nutrition education and physical activity programs.
Other projects include care services where village doctors identify high-risk groups and provide health counseling, and community-linked customized support projects addressing residents’ health concerns such as smoking cessation, mental health, and dementia.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “By operating the Sangbong Health Center, we will introduce various customized health programs desired by residents. We will continue to enhance access to public health services so that residents can live healthy and vibrant lives in the community.”
The Sangbong Health Center was opened in 2018 inside the Sangbong 2-dong Complex Building as part of Seoul’s health center expansion support project. Located on the first and second floors of the complex building, it is equipped with facilities such as a chronic disease management room and health center education room to promote residents’ health.
