School Meal Project Budget Increased by 1.9987 Billion Won
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Education Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 30th that it reviewed the 1st supplementary budget proposal submitted by the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education.
The scale of this supplementary budget proposal was set at 5.5712 trillion won, an increase of 1.2382 trillion won compared to the original budget, focusing on promoting educational recovery supporting the great transformation of Jeonnam education, establishing an educational safety net, and creating a foundation for future education.
During the review of the supplementary budget proposal held that day, the committee focused on the validity and rationality of the budget allocation for major projects of the Office of Education, reducing unnecessary project expenses by 445.78 million won, and approving an increase of 1.9987 billion won for the ‘Local Agricultural, Fishery, and Livestock Special Meal Support’ project to support school meal food costs.
Kim Jin-nam, chairman of the Subcommittee on Coefficient Adjustment, stated, “Due to the recent rapid rise in prices, the cost of food ingredients has skyrocketed, raising concerns about the deterioration of school meals. Since school meals are directly linked to children's health, all education committee members unanimously increased the meal budget to provide high-quality meals and to revitalize the local economy by promoting consumption of local agricultural, fishery, and livestock products.”
Chairman Jo Ok-hyun said, “The budget is a reflection of how we repay the sincerity gathered from the people to our children. Especially, this budget review reflects the education committee members’ intention not to increase funds for facility investment but to help our children’s sound growth with better ingredients, so the budget must be spent where it is truly needed.”
The supplementary budget proposal reviewed that day is expected to be finalized through the review of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts and the plenary session scheduled for the 29th.
