[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Eun-ju, Emergency Committee Chairperson of the Justice Party, on the 25th mentioned former President Moon Jae-in's purge of deep-rooted evils and urged the Yoon Seok-yeol administration to "break free from the temptation of purging deep-rooted evils." Chairperson Lee attracted attention by repeatedly emphasizing the need for the Yoon administration to change its national governance approach and to use the Moon Jae-in administration as a negative example.
During a non-negotiating party speech at the National Assembly plenary session that day, Chairperson Lee stated, "The previous Moon Jae-in administration embarked on a purge of deep-rooted evils in a revolutionary manner rather than through politics. Ultimately, by rejecting the blade aimed at itself, it earned the dishonor of hypocrisy." She criticized, "How devastated has our politics become during this period of purging deep-rooted evils? People died, were injured, and hatred and hostility toward opposing opinions spread among citizens, making politics a source of division rather than unity." She continued, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration has again drawn the sword of purging deep-rooted evils over North Korea issues. I don’t know who they intend to put on the prosecution photo line to boost approval ratings, but if this repetitive cycle of purging deep-rooted evils does not end here, our politics will never change."
She insisted, "Substantial cooperation must be achieved," and criticized, "(The Yoon administration) is destroying cooperation with the National Assembly through rule-based governance, so claiming to carry out reforms that require the highest level of political consensus is absurd." She added, "The Moon Jae-in administration, which framed the National Assembly as a 'non-working parliament' throughout its term, even after holding a majority in the Assembly, continued to despise it," and questioned, "Will you do the same?"
Referring to the rule of law, she said, "The starting point of the Park Geun-hye administration’s downfall was the special inspector. However, the Moon Jae-in administration refused to appoint one, and since then, various suspicions have surfaced." She urged, "President Yoon Seok-yeol should immediately proceed with the appointment process of the special inspector, as promised during his transition period."
Chairperson Lee emphasized, "The Yoon administration must recognize that it can prevent governance collapse only by not abandoning the path of a conservative yet democratic and competent government."
Regarding the complex economic crisis, she appealed for measures to protect the vulnerable, including ▲a significant increase in the median income standard used as the basis for welfare benefits ▲protection of housing vulnerable groups from soaring rents ▲preemptive debt adjustment for low-credit, low-income, and multiple debtors ▲implementation of a delivery price linkage system ▲effective measures against high inflation and high oil prices ▲and legislation to protect vulnerable workers.
Meanwhile, overcoming the Justice Party’s crisis, she stated, "During the Cho Kuk incident and the phase of the complete repeal of prosecution powers (Geomsu Wanbak), political judgments that compromised progressive principles were repeatedly made," and declared, "We will organize the chaotic political line of the past 10 years." She said, "We will expand labor representation in line with the changed reality and lead social solidarity to resolve inequality," and added, "We will propose concrete measures for the revitalization of regional politics and restructure the system so that the next innovative leadership can lead reform."
