[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Southern Fire Station announced on the 11th that the risk of fire is increasing due to the increased use of air conditioners in summer, urging people to check the condition of air conditioner outdoor units and follow safety rules.
In the past five years, there have been a total of 1,168 air conditioner fire incidents nationwide, resulting in 4 deaths and property damage amounting to 5.037 billion KRW.
Fires caused by air conditioners gradually increased from June (8.6%) and concentrated in July and August (62.6%), with half (49.4%) of the incidents occurring in residential facilities (detached and multi-family housing, etc.).
The main causes of air conditioner outdoor unit fires include ▲ electrical factors such as poor contact due to aging wires ▲ carelessness such as cigarette butts ▲ mechanical factors caused by overheating.
For the safe use of air conditioner outdoor units in summer, it is recommended to ▲ use single wires and check for damage to wire insulation ▲ clean the outdoor unit and manage and inspect the surrounding environment ▲ avoid placing flammable objects near heating appliances ▲ and always request an expert inspection if any problems occur with the outdoor unit.
Especially, since air conditioners, which are most frequently used in summer, can lead to fires from a moment of carelessness, it is necessary to pay special attention by following safety rules.
