Who from Samsung attended the US Silicon Valley 'Billionaires Gathering' instead of Lee Jae-yong?

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Choi Kyung-sik, President of Samsung Electronics North America, and Lee Won-jin, President of Samsung Electronics Visual Display Business Division, attended the Sun Valley Conference in the United States, a social gathering of global IT and media industry giants, which Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong of Samsung Electronics missed due to his trial schedule.

According to Business Insider and AFP on the 6th (local time), among Koreans, President Choi and President Lee attended the Sun Valley Conference held in Sun Valley, Idaho, USA. President Choi has been in charge of Samsung Electronics North America since December 2020 and was promoted to president in the 2022 regular personnel reshuffle. President Lee, formerly Google’s Senior Vice President, joined Samsung Electronics in May 2014 and was promoted to president last July.

The Sun Valley Conference is an international business meeting hosted annually since 1983 by the American investment bank Allen & Company, and only invited figures can attend. It is called the 'summer camp' of industry giants, where many media and IT industry leaders gather, and just before the event, chartered planes carrying heads of global companies arrive one after another, creating a spectacular scene.

Originally, it was expected that Vice Chairman Lee would attend in person for the first time in six years, but he ultimately did not attend. Lee attended every year from 2002 to 2016 but missed this year due to his trial schedule. Previously, Lee said during the 2017 political scandal trial, "Sun Valley is the busiest business trip of the year and the one I pay the most attention to."

This year, attendees included Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, known as the 'investment genius'; Parag Agrawal, CEO of Twitter; Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Meta; Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors (GM); Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber; John Donahoe, CEO of Nike; Bob Iger, former chairman of Disney; and RJ Scaringe, CEO of Rivian.
