SkyAutonet Co., Ltd. announced that it has been selected as the lead research and development institution for the new support project “Development of a Hub-Based Level 4+ Autonomous Driving Large Truck Vehicle Platform” under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Autonomous Driving Technology Development Innovation Project and will proceed with the project.
The Autonomous Driving Technology Development Innovation Project is a collaborative initiative led by government ministries including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the National Police Agency. Over seven years, a total of 1.0974 trillion KRW will be invested to establish the foundation for the commercialization of converged Level 4+ autonomous vehicles by 2027, with support provided to the finally selected executing companies and institutions.
This national project aims to commercialize autonomous driving by focusing on logistics hubs around highways and expressways, developing and establishing testing methods and standards for predicting the lifespan and performing maintenance of autonomous vehicles, and technologies for responding to autonomous vehicle accident risks.
To prevent accidents caused by long-distance driving of large trucks, SkyAutonet Co., Ltd., selected for the development of a hub-based Level 4+ autonomous driving large truck vehicle platform technology, will collaborate with joint research and development institutions (Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Korea Automotive Convergence Technology Institute, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and Neopm) to develop a Level 4+ autonomous driving large truck vehicle platform capable of hub-based logistics transport on highways (expressways) and general roads in logistics areas by 2027.
Among these, SkyAutonet Co., Ltd. plans to conduct phased research and development including ▲design and production of an integrated ECU based on Level 4 autonomous driving standards, ▲single element performance verification of perception sensors and longitudinal/lateral controllers, ▲development of a Level 4 system for large trucks capable of highway driving, ▲development of an autonomous driving platform for Level 4 system development, ▲advancement of the Level 4+ large truck autonomous driving platform, and ▲continuous operation of Level 4 large truck autonomous driving between hubs.
A representative of SkyAutonet Co., Ltd. stated, “As the lead research and development institution for the ongoing ‘Hub-Based Level 4+ Autonomous Driving Large Truck Vehicle Platform Technology Development Project,’ we will collaborate with joint research and development institutions including Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, Korea Automotive Convergence Technology Institute, Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and Neopm to achieve commercialization results.”
Meanwhile, SkyAutonet Co., Ltd. is a mobility-specialized company that independently develops software and hardware for autonomous driving. It is expanding its service areas from B2C to B2B and B2G by developing unmanned transport equipment such as autonomous cleaning vehicles, trucks, and yard tractors, as well as the autonomous speed control system “School Zone Saver,” which has been piloted in taxis.
