Gartner Announces Global PC Shipments Forecast of 310 Million Units This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] It is forecasted that global PC shipments will decrease by 9.5% compared to the previous year due to declining demand.
According to market research firm Gartner on the 4th, worldwide PC shipments in 2022 are expected to reach 310 million units, down 9.5% from 342 million units in the same period last year. This contrasts with last year's growth rate of 11.0% compared to the previous year.
By region, the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) area is expected to see a 14% decline due to a lack of consumer PC demand. This is attributed to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, price increases, and product supply disruptions caused by China's lockdown measures.
Global device shipments, including PCs, are also projected to decrease by 7.6% this year. In the PC market, the decline is steeper compared to tablets (-9.0%) and mobile phones (-7.1%).
Ranjit Atwal, Senior Director Analyst at Gartner, said, "The 'perfect storm' of geopolitical upheaval, high inflation, currency fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions has led to a decrease in business and consumer demand for devices worldwide."
He added, "Consumer PC demand is expected to decline by 13.1% in 2022, dropping much faster than business PC demand, which is forecasted to decrease by 7.2% compared to the previous year."
