[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office announced on the 29th that, as a result of a joint inspection of 'suspected improper waste disposal companies' conducted from May to June this year, a total of five violating business sites were detected, including four in Jeonnam and one in Jeju.
This inspection targeted seven suspected improper disposal companies selected through the Olbaro system analysis, amid concerns over the increase in abandoned waste due to the rise in household waste caused by COVID-19 and the shortage of waste disposal facilities.
As a result of checking whether the Olbaro system transfer details matched the actual input/output records, a total of 11 cases were detected at five sites, including six cases of non-entry or poor entry in the Olbaro system and one case of exceeding the waste storage period, and local governments were instructed to take immediate action.
Kim Seung-hee, head of the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, stated, “To minimize damage to residents caused by abandoned waste, we will continue thorough inspections in cooperation with local governments and specialized institutions such as the Environmental Corporation.”
