Heavy monsoon rains exceeding 170mm fell in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province until dawn. On the 24th, the southern coast and Jeju Island will experience rainfall exceeding 30mm per hour until the morning. Most regions, except for Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeju Island, have lifted heavy rain warnings, and the rain is expected to stop in the morning.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 7 a.m. on this day, rainfall of 20mm per hour is occurring mainly in southern Jeollanam-do, Hadong in Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeju Island. Although the low-pressure system has moved to the East Sea, due to the influence of the stationary front, the southern regions will experience heavy rain exceeding 30mm per hour with thunder and lightning until morning, and Jeju Island until noon.

Rainfall of 20 to 50mm is expected in the Jeollanam-do area, southern Gyeongbuk area, and Gyeongsangnam-do area; 5 to 30mm in Gangwon Province, southern Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Jeollabuk-do, and northern Gyeongsangbuk-do. The southern coast will receive an additional 30 to 80mm of rain until the 25th. Jeju Island will see an additional 50 to 100mm, with some areas exceeding 150mm, until the 26th. In the late afternoon, isolated showers of around 5mm are expected due to atmospheric instability in eastern Gyeonggi and inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon.

The Korea Meteorological Administration lifted heavy rain advisories at 4 a.m. for Sejong, Daejeon, Chungcheongbuk-do, and parts of Chungcheongnam-do, and at 6 a.m. for Gwangju, inland Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Jeollanam-do, and Gangwon. At 3 a.m., the heavy rain advisory issued for Jeju’s mountainous, northern, and western areas was upgraded to a heavy rain warning.

From the previous day until the morning of the 24th, heavy rainfall exceeding 170mm was recorded in parts of Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province. Jangheung-myeon (Yangju), Gapyeong in Gyeonggi, Nami Island (Chuncheon), and Naechon-myeon (Pocheon) recorded 173mm; Onam (Namyangju) 164mm; Sinnam (Inje) 150.5mm; Daehwa (Pyeongchang) 141.5mm; and Seoul recorded 122.1mm. Over 100mm of rain also fell in the Jeolla and Gyeongsang regions, including Jangsu with 133mm, Gui (Wanju) 118.5mm, Imsil 114.5mm, and Buksang (Geochang) 106.0mm.

Due to rainfall in Paju (140.5mm) and Bukchuncheon (100.8mm) the previous day, the highest daily rainfall for June was recorded, and Cheorwon (92.3mm) and Dongducheon (115.9mm) recorded the 2nd and 3rd highest daily rainfall extremes, respectively.

In Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, vehicles were submerged, and in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, three pedestrians sustained minor injuries due to ground subsidence. Due to the heavy rain, 16 passenger ferries traveling between Mokpo and Jeonbuk were suspended, and two flights were canceled in Gimpo. Rivers overflowed in various parts of the city, leading to restricted access.
