[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 15th that it will hold a youth space camp, including an aerospace science special lecture, jointly with the Korea Youth Activity Promotion Agency and the Korea Youth Policy Institute ahead of the second launch of Nuriho.
The National Youth Space Center, in collaboration with the Goheung Office of Education, is hosting the Goheung Cosmos Camp from the 14th to the 16th for 20 middle school students interested in space exploration under the theme "Our Future Carried by Nuriho" for 2 nights and 3 days.
Participants will experience rocket-related programs such as making and launching water rockets to understand rocket propulsion principles, making foam rockets to learn about the stability of atmospheric flight, and creating paper airplanes and aero rockets to study the principles of atmospheric flight. On the third day, they will observe the Nuriho launch scene at the Space Center. Dr. Hwang Jeong-ah from the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute will conduct a special lecture on the development of Nuriho, covering the development process of Korea’s rockets and space exploration vehicles.
The National Youth Space Center will broadcast live online the vivid scenes of the second Nuriho launch scheduled on the 16th at the Naro Space Center in Goheung, Jeollanam-do. An aerospace science expert will explain the first Korean-made launch vehicle, the Nuriho rocket, developed with Korea’s own technology, tailored to the youth’s level, and introduce live broadcast filming equipment. The live broadcast of the Nuriho launch can be viewed on the official YouTube channel of the National Youth Space Center.
The Korea Youth Policy Institute will hold a two-day "Youth Policy Development Workshop for Opening the Space Era" from the 15th to the 16th to discuss various policy directions for youth who will become the protagonists of the space era.
The main topics include ▲various space experience and space exploration science activity programs ▲virtual space experience programs through digital platforms such as extended virtual worlds (metaverse) ▲education programs for professionals such as youth leaders and teachers ▲policy directions for developing career education programs related to space science.
Kim Hyun-sook, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, said, "I hope that the Nuriho launch and the space science programs conducted at the National Youth Space Center will nurture the dreams of youth who will lead the ‘New Space’ era and serve as a foundation for Korea’s leap to a space powerhouse." She added, "We will actively strive to enable youth facilities to demonstrate greater capabilities as spaces for nurturing future talents by leveraging regional characteristics."
