"Prepare Safety Measures" Merchants Blocking Vehicles at Gwangju Collapse Accident Sent to Prosecution

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nearby merchants who blocked construction vehicles at the site of the Hwajeong I-Park collapse accident in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City have been handed over to the prosecution.

Gwangju Western Police Station announced on the 7th that they have sent six nearby merchants to prosecution on charges of obstruction of business.

They are accused of blocking the entrance to the construction site with vehicles and obstructing the passage of construction vehicles since April 25.

According to the investigation, they carried out these actions claiming that stronger safety measures were necessary before the demolition work.

The merchants have suffered continuous damage such as scattered dust and building cracks since the start of the Hwajeong I-Park construction, and during the demolition process, they claimed they would not be able to conduct business properly, demanding an apology from Chung Mong-gyu, chairman of HDC Group, along with compensation for more than six months of business losses.

The construction company, HDC Hyundai Development Company, filed a complaint against seven of these merchants on the 7th, stating that they were obstructing the dismantling work of debris by blocking passage, and among them, one person was not charged due to lack of evidence.
