[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will conduct safety education and provide safety equipment for delivery workers working in poor conditions and business operators who deliver directly.
On the 30th, Suwon City announced that it will hold 'Delivery Worker Safety Education' 10 times every Tuesday starting from the 7th of next month.
A professional instructor will teach safety rules to prevent motorcycle accidents, emergency response and handling methods in case of accidents, and motorcycle maintenance methods.
The city will support the purchase and repair costs of motorcycle protective gear (safety products) for delivery workers who complete the safety education. After the education, if they purchase protective equipment or repair their motorcycle and submit the details, they can receive up to 100,000 KRW per person.
Earlier, the city, the Suwon City Labor-Management-Government Council, and the delivery workers' labor union 'Rider Union' signed an 'Agreement for Establishing a Safe Delivery Work Culture' in February and agreed to cooperate to create a safe delivery work culture and protect delivery workers' labor rights and interests.
A city official emphasized, "Although the number of delivery workers has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic, awareness of safety is insufficient," adding, "Suwon City will take the lead in creating a safe working environment for delivery workers and protecting their labor rights and interests."
