Jangheung-gun, All-Out Effort to Help Shortage of Farm and Fishery Workers in the Region

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seung-hyun] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that it is alleviating labor shortages by collaborating with the Jeollanam-do Volunteer Center to assist farms and fisheries facing significant difficulties in securing rural workforce due to COVID-19.

On the 20th, a group of about 10 students from the University Student Volunteer Corps visited the blueberry farms in Usan Village, Jangpyeong-myeon, Jangheung, to carry out blueberry harvesting volunteer activities.

The county pre-registered farms and fisheries with labor shortages in 10 eup and myeon areas and selected 6 farms and fisheries.

This volunteer activity, in collaboration with the Jeollanam-do Volunteer Center, will proceed sequentially with about 150 volunteers at 6 locations, starting from Usan Village in Jangpyeong-myeon until the end of June, the tobacco leaf harvesting season in Jangdong Baesan.

A Jangheung-gun official expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank the University Student Volunteer Corps and members of organizations participating in rural labor assistance volunteer activities for joining while adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines.”
