Yeosu City Takes Steps to Strengthen Competitiveness of Small but Strong Farmers

Enhancing Self-Reliance through Customized Management Improvement Consulting

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 19th that since March, it has conducted the ‘Small-Scale Farmer Management Improvement Practical Training,’ with a total of 26 participants completing two courses.

The ‘Small-Scale Farmer Management Improvement Practical Training’ is a program designed to strengthen self-reliance capabilities through customized management improvement consulting, enabling agricultural management entities with small-scale farming but differentiated competitiveness to achieve higher incomes.

This year, a total of 26 small and medium family farms participated in two courses: introductory and advanced.

The introductory course included management record keeping, farm management environment analysis, business model application, and on-site coaching (Small-Scale Farmer Cross Coaching).

In particular, the customized coaching conducted on-site identified and addressed management issues, receiving great responses from the farmers.

The advanced course, aimed at increasing the income of small-scale farmers, focused on developing ‘Rural Experience Packages’ for those who completed the introductory course.

Eleven types of rural experience packages are being developed, including ▲Dolsan Gat Kimchi making ▲Camellia Flower Macrame crafting ▲Flowerpot Gangjeong making.

In the second half of the year, the ‘Harvest Process’ will be conducted as part of the Small-Scale Farmer Management Improvement Practical Training.

A city official stated, “To respond to changes in agriculture following COVID-19 and to increase farmers’ income, education on utilizing live commerce is also planned,” adding, “We will promote various projects to realize small but strong agriculture, such as field visits to excellent farms and participation in the Small-Scale Farmer Expo.”
