[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Independent candidate Lee Hong-gi for Geochang County Governor held a meeting with local journalists at his campaign office at 11 a.m. on the 16th to discuss county development plans, including three major strategies for Geochang’s development, creating a convergence tourism hub city, and expanding support measures to increase farm household income.
At the meeting, candidate Lee Hong-gi said that he was elected county governor twice by the residents and that his challenge as an independent this time is solely because of his desire to work and hope for Geochang’s development. He stated that he will do more to properly complete the work he started and bring forward Geochang’s development by 20 years.
He explained the “three major strategies for Geochang’s development,” which include preparing for administrative integration expected within 10 years, new growth engines for Geochang’s development, and pioneering the 4th industrial revolution era in agriculture. Candidate Lee said, “The biggest issue in Geochang is to maximize the attraction of resident population while increasing the floating population.”
To solve these Geochang issues, he said, “Gajo Hot Springs will be developed into an international hot spring resort town by establishing a comprehensive hot spring facility, an outlet shopping mall, and a hotel combining atopy-specialized oriental medicine and plastic surgery. For hosting the International Horticultural Expo, Changpoweon will be developed into the largest national garden in the Yeongnam region. Additionally, along with the Gamaksan Observatory specialized tourism complex, the Goje Bbaejae Extreme Town will be created to make Geochang a central city.”
Candidate Lee emphasized that to achieve new growth engine economic growth, he will attract a Geochang tourism-type pumped-storage power plant with an investment of 3 trillion won, aiming to revive Geochang’s economy and create basic food sources and jobs over the next 10 years.
He also expressed his enthusiasm to develop Geochang into a drone mecca city in cooperation with Geochang University, promoting mutual growth of the economy and the university. He plans to create a Senior Heaven City where 3,000 households and 5,000 to 10,000 people can reside, enabling Geochang to develop as a Daegu metropolitan area satellite city in the era of the Dalbit Inland Railway.
Furthermore, he declared pioneering the 4th industrial revolution era in agriculture. He plans to build a large-scale smart farm connected to a hydrogen fuel power plant, establish a future youth agriculture foundation, resolve rural labor issues, and provide stable jobs by building a corporate-type job center platform.
Candidate Lee Hong-gi explained plans for creating a convergence tourism hub city and expanding support measures to increase farm household income, promising to communicate with residents to restore the pride of northwestern Gyeongnam and create a new history of Geochang’s prosperity.
