[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] China has claimed that if the conflict related to the Ukraine situation continues, greater damage could occur.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 15th, Wang Yi, China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister, stated in a phone call with Nikos Dendias, Greece's Foreign Minister, the previous day, "China hopes for a swift end to the war and the restoration of peace."

Minister Wang Yi said, "If the conflict prolongs and expands, Europe will suffer greater damage," adding, "I hope Europe makes wise choices and calm decisions to prevent the situation from reaching an uncontrollable state."

He continued, "Europe's security should be in the hands of Europeans," emphasizing, "China supports a political solution and will continue to urge reconciliation."

He warned against a new Cold War and opposed bloc confrontations, criticizing the United States. Minister Wang Yi stated, "China opposes attempts by certain forces to expand the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) into the Asia-Pacific region under the pretext of the Ukraine crisis," stressing, "Attempts to create an Asia-Pacific version of NATO will cause serious harm to regional security."
