[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will operate a 'Collection Task Force' until the end of next month to intensively track and collect overdue taxes from high-amount delinquent taxpayers residing outside the jurisdiction.
The targets are 3,489 high-amount delinquent taxpayers and delinquent corporations residing outside the jurisdiction. Their total overdue amount reaches 52.914 billion KRW (55,833 cases).
To this end, Suwon City will organize the 'High-Amount Delinquent Taxpayer Tracking Collection Task Force' into two teams of four members each. In particular, following the recent lifting of social distancing measures, the city will strengthen 'field-centered pinpoint delinquency tracking' and 'customized delinquency disposition.'
The Collection Task Force will identify the residences of delinquent taxpayers outside the jurisdiction and establish a 'field-centered pinpoint delinquency tracking plan.' They will verify reasons for delinquency and details of delinquency dispositions, classify delinquent taxpayers by type, and secure various materials necessary for delinquency tracking, including investigating the assets of delinquent taxpayers' families.
The city plans to investigate the living conditions of delinquent taxpayers and, if hidden assets are discovered, promptly secure claims by filing a 'fraudulent conveyance cancellation lawsuit.' Fraudulent conveyance refers to acts of intentionally reducing assets to prevent creditors from receiving adequate compensation.
Additionally, for those subject to public auction, the city will request auctions after assessing practical benefits, and if delinquent taxpayers are found to be assetless or uncollectible, the city will suspend collection and write off the debts.
A city official emphasized, "By operating the task force to track high-amount delinquent taxpayers outside the jurisdiction, we will further strengthen the 'field-centered delinquency tracking' that was difficult to implement during the COVID-19 spread period."
