[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The new building of Gaebong 2-dong Community Service Center (Director Han Sang-ryul) in Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Sung) officially opened on the 25th.

On the 26th, Guro-gu announced, "We have completed the new construction to provide residents with a pleasant office environment and highly functional autonomous activity spaces, and have started full-scale operations."

The previous Gaebong 2-dong Community Service Center, built in 1981, was severely aged, and the residents experienced many inconveniences due to the cramped rest areas and civil service offices.

Accordingly, Guro-gu established a new construction plan in 2017, including the purchase of a nearby building, and rebuilt the center as a 4-story building above ground and 1 basement floor, with a total floor area of 2,053㎡.

The newly renovated Gaebong 2-dong office at 17 Gaebong-ro 16ga-gil includes a basement with parking lot, mechanical room, and electrical room; the 1st floor houses the civil service office and welfare counseling room; the 2nd floor has a small library; the 3rd floor contains the residents' autonomy room, district headquarters, and education room; and the 4th floor features an auditorium and storage.

In particular, the Gaebong 2-dong office supports diverse cultural activities for local residents by providing an auditorium and education room for various autonomous community programs and operating a small library where books can be read and borrowed.

A Guro-gu official stated, "The community service center is evolving into a complex space for residents that not only handles administrative tasks but also offers cultural, welfare, and leisure functions. We expect that relocating to the new building will provide residents with higher quality administrative services."

Meanwhile, the Guro Lifelong Learning Center (946 Nambu Sunhwan-ro), which was used as a temporary Gaebong 2-dong Community Service Center, will return to its original function. It will serve as a central institution overseeing lifelong education programs and supporting excellent lifelong learning clubs.

Spring flowers are in full bloom at Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin)’s Choansan ‘Sky Flower Garden.’ The ‘Sky Flower Garden’ at Choansan is a theme park centered on ‘flowers,’ created by Dobong-gu in November last year by renovating a 14,000㎡ pear orchard area at San 192-7, Chang-dong (across from Changnim Elementary School).

The garden features abundant greenery including ▲herbaceous plants such as moss phlox, iris, and lily ▲tall trees like crape myrtle and cornelian cherry ▲and small trees including azalea and boxwood.

Especially, visitors can enjoy 560,000 perennial plants of 56 species with unique characteristics such as ▲‘Tail Grass’ resembling an animal’s tail ▲‘Pheasant’s Eye’ whose flower shape reminds one of a pheasant ▲‘Saw Grass’ with serrated leaf edges ▲and ‘Iris’ whose leaves and flower buds resemble a brush.

Walking paths are laid with palm mats through the greenery, and rest areas, observatories, insect models (dragonfly, rhinoceros beetle, butterfly), metal sculptures, and letter decorations are installed throughout, making it a popular photo zone for residents.

To remember the site’s history as a pear orchard, 30 pear trees have been preserved. The pear blossoms (梨花), with their beautiful white petals, typically bloom profusely after mid-April.

Dobong-gu Mayor Lee Dong-jin said, “The Choansan ‘Sky Flower Garden’ was created in 2021 after Dobong-gu completed compensation in 2017 for the former pear orchard area, allowing residents to enjoy seasonal flowers. We hope many people will visit the garden nearby to experience the full bloom of spring without having to travel far.”

The representative seasonal species of Choansan ‘Sky Flower Garden’ include ▲Spring: moss phlox, variegated iris, spirea, perennial salvia, Stella daylily, forsythia, royal azalea, iris ▲Summer: tail grass, dayflower, spiderwort, balloon flower (Ros?a), lily, hydrangea, hosta ▲Autumn: saw grass, pheasant’s eye, Korean bellflower, pink muhly grass, variegated silver grass, wild chive ▲Winter: silver grass species.

Gwangjin-gu is delivering messages of hope to residents by displaying the selected ‘Spring’ hopeful phrase from the 1st Mind Canvas Contest at the district office.

The selected phrase for ‘Spring,’ "The place where you stayed, flowers will bloom soon," was chosen through the ‘1st Mind Canvas Contest’ held in March. Gwangjin-gu decorated a banner with a background image full of spring vibes and posted it at the safety management building of the district office.

The ‘Mind Canvas’ project, launched for the first time this year in Gwangjin-gu, is a nationwide contest for beautiful creative phrases related to the four seasons filled with hope. Selected phrases are shared with Gwangjin residents through banners and various other means.

Gwangjin-gu aimed to infuse hope and vitality into residents’ daily lives through sharing hopeful phrases and beautiful images, creating a space for empathy and communication where hearts connect.

Additionally, the blue background of the banner combined with green ivy vines beautifies the office building, expected to captivate not only residents’ hearts but also their eyes.

Moreover, the selected ‘Spring’ phrase will be shared with more residents through electronic display boards and smart office guidance systems.

Gwangjin-gu plans to hold the ‘2nd Mind Canvas Contest’ in July and continue the project in the second half of the year. The 2nd contest will solicit beautiful hopeful phrases related to ‘Autumn’ and ‘Winter.’

The ‘Summer’ phrase, selected alongside the ‘Spring’ phrase in the 1st contest, is scheduled to be displayed on banners in June.
