Targeting Public Health Center Rehabilitation Therapy Rooms Facing Psychological Difficulties Due to Prolonged COVID-19 Pandemic
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Mental Health Welfare Center at the Hamyang-gun Public Health Center in Gyeongnam is operating a mental health project called ‘Shall We Meet Today?’ for rehabilitation room users who are experiencing psychological difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The currently ongoing mental health project, ‘A Small Spring in My Hand,’ is a horticulture class program inviting a local flower arrangement expert instructor. It is scheduled to run once a week for a total of five sessions from April 14 to May 12. The first session will be a centerpiece-making class using freesia, a seasonal spring flower.
This program is the first face-to-face lecture conducted during the phased return to normal life after the public health center’s programs were suspended due to COVID-19.
A resident who participated in the program said, “After leg surgery, I stayed at home and was very depressed because I couldn’t even go see flowers due to COVID-19, but the public health center provided a great opportunity.”
A center official stated, “If psychological anxiety and depression persist, people can visit the center or use the 24-hour mental health counseling phone line for non-face-to-face support.”
