If you like cocktails with cola, you might have wondered at least once, "Would a cocktail made with zero cola taste good instead of regular cola?"
Being the curious type, I immediately put it to the test. I mixed wine, rum, and soju with zero cola to make cola cocktails. To give a slight spoiler, all three were surprisingly delicious. Check out these light and easy cocktail recipes made with 0 kcal cola by scrolling down.
Calimocho
Two beloved wine cocktails in Spain are Sangria and Calimocho. While Sangria is a refreshing cocktail made by adding fruit to red wine, Calimocho is red wine mixed with cola. Calimocho was commonly enjoyed in Rioja, a representative wine-producing region in Spain! I made a zero Calimocho by mixing red wine with zero cola.
Recipe Fill a glass with ice and pour wine and zero cola in a 1:1 ratio. If using sour and astringent wine, mixing in a 1:2 ratio is also good.
Calimocho offers the fragrant aroma of wine and the sweetness of cola. The combination of wine and cola is this good! The wine aroma is subtly noticeable without any astringency, and it tastes sweet like juice. You can think of it as a sweeter Sangria. Adding various fruits like orange will make it even more refreshing.
Malibu Coke
This cocktail, commonly called "Malibu Coke," is made by mixing Malibu rum, a coconut extract rum, with cola. It is a type of rum and coke, but due to Malibu rum's unique flavor and aroma, it tastes completely different from the usual rum and coke.
Recipe Mix Malibu rum and zero cola in a 1:4 ratio in a glass filled with ice.
The sweet scent of coconut rises, giving a pleasant refreshing sensation. Because of the coconut aroma, it is much smoother than regular rum and coke, and you cannot taste the alcohol at all. The combination of Malibu and cola results in a relatively strong sweetness. If you usually like coconut drinks or prefer sweet cocktails, this is a must-try drink.
Ssokol
Soju is usually mixed with tonic water to make "Ssotonic," but it also pairs well with cola. When the alcohol content feels too strong to drink soju, try mixing it with cola. It lowers the alcohol content and lets you enjoy a sweeter taste.
Recipe Mix soju and zero cola in a 1:3 ratio. Adding ice and a little lemon juice makes it even tastier.
How is this possible? Just by mixing in a little cola, the alcoholic and harsh taste of soju completely disappears. It’s even suitable for those who strongly dislike soju. The sweetness of cola is noticeable, finishing with a slightly bitter taste, and the throat feel is much smoother than drinking soju alone. This is a dangerously delicious cocktail that you might drink one glass after another and get drunk quickly.
Overall Review
Zero cola, which is lighter in both taste and calories compared to regular cola. I thought the unique somewhat empty sweetness of zero cola might make the cocktail taste bland, but it was much better than expected. The moderate sweetness without stickiness and the refreshing carbonation made all three cocktails attractive. I also liked that you can enjoy cocktails without worrying about calories. If you have zero cola sleeping in your fridge, I recommend mixing it with alcohol to enjoy homemade cocktails.
