[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for former lawmaker Ahn Sang-soo, a candidate in the People Power Party's Incheon mayoral primary.
According to the legal community on the 14th, the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office filed an arrest warrant against former lawmaker Ahn on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
The pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination) for former lawmaker Ahn is being held from 3 p.m. today at the Incheon District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Hyundeok, who is in charge of warrants at the Incheon District Court. The result of the examination is expected to be decided late this afternoon.
A close aide of former lawmaker Ahn, Mr. A(54), was arrested and indicted last year on charges of handing over 113 million won to Mr. B(50), the head of a publicity agency, during the People Power Party's presidential primary process last year. This has raised suspicions that the current warrant request against former lawmaker Ahn may be related to Mr. A's violation of the Public Official Election Act.
Earlier, the People Power Party's Central Party Nomination Management Committee confirmed three candidates?former lawmaker Ahn, Yoo Jeong-bok, and Lee Hak-jae?as candidates for the Incheon mayoral primary, and former lawmaker Ahn agreed to unify his candidacy with Lee Hak-jae on the 7th.
