[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] The future projects of Hollywood actor Will Smith, who sparked controversy after assaulting comedian Chris Rock, are becoming uncertain. It has been reported that films originally planned to star Will Smith are being postponed or halted one by one.

On the 2nd (local time), the American entertainment media outlet 'The Hollywood Reporter' cited a source and reported that the Netflix film 'Fast and Loose' has been moved down the production priority list. Will Smith was originally scheduled to star in this film.

The film was set to be directed by David Leitch, who directed several action movies such as 'John Wick,' 'Atomic Blonde,' and 'Deadpool 2,' but he recently took on directing another film, leaving the position vacant. The Hollywood Reporter also stated that it is unclear whether Netflix will proceed with production by recruiting other actors and directors instead of Smith.

Additionally, Smith was preparing the film 'Bad Boys 4' with Sony, but it also appears to be on hold.

Earlier, on the 27th of last month, Smith stormed the stage at the Academy Awards held in Los Angeles, USA, and slapped Rock. This was because Rock made jokes about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia. Afterwards, Smith was asked to leave by the ceremony organizers but refused and remained seated, eventually winning the Best Actor award.

The Academy Board made a disciplinary decision against Smith three days after the incident, on the 30th of last month. The Academy's member code of conduct specifies opposition to abuse, harassment, and discrimination, and members who violate this may face suspension or expulsion.

After being disciplined by the Academy, Smith announced that he would voluntarily relinquish his membership.

In a statement on the 1st, he said, "I intend to resign from the Academy membership. I will accept any additional measures the Board deems appropriate." He added, "My behavior at the ceremony was shocking, painful, and inexcusable."

He continued, "There are many people I hurt, including Chris Rock and his family, my relatives, and the viewers of the ceremony. I took away the opportunity for other nominees and winners to celebrate and be celebrated. I hope the focus returns to the achievements of the nominees and winners."
