Eunpyeong-gu, Spring Cleaning for Daily Life Recovery

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has launched a major cleanup across the entire Eunpyeong area to thoroughly wash away the accumulated grime from winter and the stifling situation caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic as spring arrives.

On the 1st, the district announced that it conducted the ‘COVID-19 Prevention and Eunpyeong-gu Spring Cleaning for Daily Recovery’ event. This event was organized to protect residents' health and create a clean Eunpyeong, encouraging voluntary participation from the community.

Local residents, public institutions, related organizations, and public officials participated together, with events held throughout various locations in Eunpyeong. At the spacious traffic island near Eungam Station, where the ‘Bulgwangcheon’ pilot event took place, about 100 residents from nearby neighborhoods including Eungam 1-dong, Eungam 3-dong, Yeokchon-dong, and Sinsa 1-dong joined, creating a lively atmosphere.

The cleanup efforts included collecting roadside trash along Eunpyeong-ro and Yeonseo-ro, cleaning the riverbed of Bulgwangcheon, and removing litter around Bulgwangcheon. Residents, including professional groups, worked together to select vulnerable sections by neighborhood and thoroughly cleaned trash that had accumulated over the long winter.

The district simultaneously collected trash piled up in vulnerable residential areas, maintained the environment around public offices and major facilities, and carried out disinfection and cleaning at multi-use facilities such as parks and bicycle racks.

Sixteen large cleaning vehicles, including road dust vacuum cleaners, were deployed to conduct fine dust removal and water cleaning along an 88 km round-trip stretch of major arterial roads throughout the district. Street-side trash bins and food waste containers were also washed.

The district focused on intensive disinfection and trash collection around subway station areas with high foot traffic. Public and related institutions in the Eunpyeong area also participated, disinfecting facilities such as bus stops and thoroughly maintaining the surrounding environment.

Additionally, residents were encouraged to practice ▲ cleaning in front of their own homes and stores ▲ proper waste separation and disposal methods through promotional activities.

A district official stated, “We launched this large-scale spring cleaning event with the hope of preparing for a hopeful tomorrow as spring arrives,” adding, “We hope this will also serve as an opportunity to wash away the stifling feelings caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.”
