[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) held a completion ceremony for the ‘Sagajeong 51-gil’ specialized street on the evening of the 31st at Sagajeong Village Square and the area around Sagajeong-ro 51-gil, located above Sagajeong Station.

‘Sagajeong 51-gil’ is a specialized street that connects exits 1 and 2 of Sagajeong Station with the area of Sagajeong-ro 51-gil. It has been pleasantly reborn as a place for meeting and communication by preserving the symbolic significance and commercial characteristics of the Sagajeong food alley.

The event began with haegeum and violin performances by Jungnang artists, followed by the opening ceremony of Media Garden, the ribbon-cutting for the completion of the Sagajeong-ro 51-gil specialized street, on-site visits, and a street parade.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope that the newly renovated ‘Sagajeong 51-gil,’ which reflects the characteristics of the local commercial district and communication with residents, will become a lively street for communication and meetings.”

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) held the ‘2022 Gwangjin-gu Residents Cherry Blossom Path Walking Festival’ on the 1st at Children’s Grand Park, welcoming the arrival of spring.

The walking festival started at 7 a.m. at the open stage in front of the main gate of Children’s Grand Park with warm-up exercises led by a gymnastics instructor and continued until 9 a.m.

The walking course was approximately 2.5 km, starting from the open stage at Children’s Grand Park, passing through ▲Guui Gate ▲Amusement Park ▲Seoul Imagine Nation, and returning to the open stage, taking about 35 minutes.

To ensure a safer event, the district conducted temperature checks and confirmed mask-wearing before entry, deployed staff and volunteers to guide social distancing, and strictly followed quarantine rules during the event.

Yoon Nam-hee (60), a participant, said, “I have been attending the walking festival for nearly 20 years. It’s great to have an event where I can enjoy the park while breathing fresh air early in the morning.”

Lee Young-mi (63) said, “Living near Neung-dong, close to Children’s Grand Park, feels like a privilege. It’s wonderful to be able to exercise outdoors and breathe fresh air, especially since indoor exercise has been difficult due to COVID-19.”

All participants received commemorative gifts such as tumblers and portable first aid kits, and there was also a raffle offering prizes like bicycles and fans.

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We prepared this event to revitalize the community spirit dampened by COVID-19 and to expand residents’ physical activities as we welcome the coming spring. I hope this was a valuable time to relieve some of the fatigue caused by the pandemic.”

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) awarded certificates of commendation and plaques of appreciation to 11 meritorious individuals who contributed to training and developing reservists for the safety of the district and the well-being of its residents on April 1, the ‘54th Reserve Forces Day.’

The commendation ceremony, held on March 31 in the 5th-floor Planning Situation Room of Dongdaemun-gu Office, was conducted in a simplified manner considering social distancing measures due to COVID-19.

At the event, commendations were given to four reservist commanders of the 3rd Battalion, 221st Brigade, 56th Division, and six military unit commanders who contributed to the safety and lives of residents. A plaque of appreciation was also presented to Seo Sang-won, head of Jegi-dong unit, who will retire in June.

Notably, this commendation holds special significance as it expresses gratitude to those who, despite the prolonged COVID-19 situation, ensured no gaps in reservist homeland defense duties by managing reservist organizations, maintaining emergency contact networks, and dedicating themselves at local screening clinics, risking infection to protect residents’ lives.

Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “In a time when national security is critical due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and North Korea’s missile launches, the role of local reservists is more important than ever. I extend my gratitude to all who supported the public at COVID-19 screening clinics.”

Dongdaemun-gu was also the only autonomous district in Seoul selected as an excellent institution for integrated defense readiness in February 2021 following an inspection of integrated defense operations.
