Revitalizing the Local Economy through the Flopia Sports Festival
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, has been selected for the 2022 Regional Specialized Sports Tourism Industry Promotion Project organized by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.
With this selection, the county has secured a total project budget of 3 billion KRW (1.5 billion KRW from funds and 1.5 billion KRW from local government) over three years starting this year.
The Regional Specialized Sports Tourism Industry Promotion Project aims to promote regional development by developing new sports tourism programs that link key local tourist resources with leisure sports.
The county will conduct various programs under the theme of the "Plopia Sports Festival," linked with the year-round blooming Plopia and the One Island One Museum policy.
Looking at the programs by region, the Bigeum-Docho area will host the Cycle Gran Fondo, a non-competitive club event; the central region will have a badminton league; Jaeun Island will hold a marine leisure sports festival; Imja Island will feature a beach horseback riding festival; and Anjwa Island will offer Purple Island healing walks.
Since these programs are held alongside various events such as flower festivals and target the vacation season, they are expected to provide diverse attractions and entertainment not only for sports club members nationwide but also for tourists.
A Sinan-gun official stated, "We will strive to revitalize the local economy through sports tourism and help 1004 Islands Sinan emerge as a national tourist destination."
