[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun and Korea Fisheries Infrastructure Public Corporation have joined hands for the success of the ‘Sangpo Area Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project.’
According to the county on the 1st, the day before, a consignment agreement for the ‘Sangpo Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ was signed with the Korea Fisheries Infrastructure Public Corporation.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Gochang County Governor, local residents of the Sangpo area, and officials from the Korea Fisheries Infrastructure Public Corporation.
Based on its extensive experience and professional workforce in fishing village New Deal projects, the Korea Fisheries Infrastructure Public Corporation will be responsible for establishing the basic plan, detailed design, operating the local council, resident capacity-building projects, supervising facility construction, and project management.
The county will support various administrative procedures such as permits and approvals necessary for project implementation.
The Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project aims to modernize about 300 fishing villages and ports nationwide to activate marine tourism and lead innovative growth in fishing villages, fitting the era of a $30,000 national income.
The ‘Sangpo Area Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ plans to invest 8.2 billion KRW over three years until 2024 to improve and revitalize the fishing village residential environment through modernization of fishery infrastructure.
The county will proactively lead the response to climate and environmental changes and carbon neutrality by 2050 in Sangpo and Banwol of Buan-myeon, and Hudong, Huseo, and Sapo villages of Heungdeok-myeon.
By remodeling the long-awaited Hupo Seawater Bath, repairing aging breakwaters and stone revetments, and maintaining the sea road access, the project aims to widely promote the Gochang mudflat UNESCO World Natural Heritage nationwide and establish it as a leading area for mudflat ecological tourism.
An official from the county said, “We hope the project will be smoothly promoted through the agreement and breathe new life into the fishing village,” adding, “We will collect and reflect local residents’ opinions as much as possible for the successful promotion of the project.”
