[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] A competition where children can enjoy spring under the fully bloomed forsythia flowers will be held.

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will hold the ‘2022 Seongdong-gu Writing and Drawing Contest’ at Eungbongsan, a famous forsythia spot, on the 2nd.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Seongdong-gu’s representative spring flower festival, the ‘Eungbongsan Forsythia Festival,’ will not take place, but the main event of the festival, the ‘Writing and Drawing Contest,’ will be held both in-person and online simultaneously, timed with the full bloom of the forsythia at Eungbongsan. The contest is hosted by Seongdong-gu and organized by the Seongdong Cultural Foundation, Seongdong-gu Writers’ Association, and Seongdong-gu Art Association.

The in-person event will be held on April 2nd from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Eungbongsan Octagonal Pavilion, and only 299 people (including guardians) who completed pre-registration from March 16th to 31st can participate on a first-come, first-served basis. For the online contest, participants can submit their works by mail in an envelope to the Seongdong Cultural Foundation (9, Gosan-ja-ro 10-gil, Seongdong-gu) within the deadline from April 2nd to 4th.

Participants are kindergarteners and elementary, middle, and high school students, and they can enter either the writing contest (poetry, prose) or the drawing contest.

The theme for the Seongdong-gu Writing and Drawing Contest will be announced at 1 PM on the day of the event, April 2nd, both at the contest site and on the Seongdong Cultural Foundation website. Award-winning works will be announced in April.

Meanwhile, Seongdong-gu plans to release various spring flower videos, including panoramic views of the yellow-dyed Eungbongsan, on the Seongdong-gu YouTube channel in April for residents who cannot enjoy the spring flower festival due to COVID-19.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I hope the forsythia at Eungbongsan, Seongdong-gu’s spring flower spot, becomes a message of hope for the recovery of daily life. We will thoroughly implement quarantine measures so that families can create safe and precious memories.”

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) announced that it has been selected as a pilot district in Seoul’s ‘Hotddul Hotddul Seoul Infant Sports Team’ contest, securing a budget of 92 million won, and will operate the program starting in April.

The ‘Hotddul Hotddul Seoul Infant Sports Team’ is a project that links public or private sports facilities with daycare centers to provide regular physical activities for children aged 3 to 5, supporting their healthy physical and mental growth.

The district selected Gwanak-gu Community Sports Center as the main sports facility and four affiliated daycare centers in the area (Nangok, Seowon, Yechon, Hana Daycare Centers) as participating institutions. A total of 139 children in 9 classes will participate in the project.

The sports to be operated include twist car, circle black hole, balance bike, and other activities that are difficult to conduct indoors at daycare centers. Professional instructors and assistant instructors capable of guiding children’s physical activities will be hired to run these sports.

The project will run for about nine months from April to December. Quarterly monitoring of the main sports facility and affiliated daycare centers will be conducted to evaluate the sports and direction of operation, and improvements will be made accordingly.

A district official said, “The Hotddul Hotddul Seoul Infant Sports Team operation project helps promote balanced physical development and social skills such as cooperation and fair competition among infants. We expect that this project will provide a foundation for ‘lifelong sports’ by extending children’s sports experiences into adulthood.”
