[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Joo-hee] Lee Jae-myung, the Standing Adviser of the Democratic Party of Korea, who has been laying low after losing the presidential election, is expected to resume political activities through an 'online platform' to communicate with citizens.
Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Nam-guk announced on his Facebook on the 31st, "We are preparing to create an online platform. Lee Jae-myung, the Standing Adviser of the Democratic Party of Korea, is also expected to participate in this online platform."
Lawmaker Kim said, "We have been thinking about how to make it more effective and how to get more people involved. This has been a concern shared with candidate Lee Jae-myung since the last presidential election." He added, "The citizen-participatory online platform currently being prepared is hoped to serve as a public square where people gather to share their daily lives and exchange opinions on various topics."
Currently, Adviser Lee is known to be refraining from official activities following his presidential election defeat. The political subscription platform 'Lee Jae-myung Plus' and the online communication platform 'Jaemyung's Village,' both established during his candidacy, were also closed after the election.
Lawmaker Kim said that Adviser Lee plans to actively participate in the activities of the newly established online platform, adding, "This will be good news for those who miss the adviser. The platform will be designed to allow not only the adviser but also members of the National Assembly and local councilors to participate."
Meanwhile, political circles are also paying attention to the future political moves of the Standing Adviser. Within the Democratic Party, discussions are ongoing about his role in the upcoming June local elections and rumors about his candidacy for the party leadership election in August.
Regarding this, Lawmaker Kim stated in an interview with CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the same day, "Currently, the adviser is not planning or considering any political schedule." However, about the possibility of Lee running in the August party leadership election, he said, "I think he should do so. I want to say that he should run for party leader," he added.
