[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has unveiled the brand elements, including the symbol mark, logo, and emblem, of the 'Gyeonggi-do Library,' which is scheduled to open in 2025.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that since October last year, through the Gyeonggi-do Library brand development project and a public survey of residents, it has recently finalized the design of the symbols and completed trademark registration with the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
After discussions with design advisory committee members, the province established four core images for the Gyeonggi-do Library: ▲'Expansion' - opening a new horizon of culture ▲'Sharing' - realizing cultural enjoyment and knowledge information welfare for residents ▲'Change' - discovering future values and promoting smart transformation ▲'Connection' - linking all generations of past, present, and future.
First, the symbol combines curves and straight lines to represent the shape of the Gyeonggi-do Library building. The dynamic curves symbolize the 'horizon,' and the intersection of two curves signifies the 'connection of knowledge,' succinctly embodying the future-oriented values of the Gyeonggi-do Library.
Additionally, referring to the nickname 'Dalpaengi Library' (Snail Library), which was selected in the 2020 naming contest, a design was also unveiled that depicts the 'snail slowly but steadily advancing toward the pursuit of knowledge.'
The province plans to apply the unified design and graphics of the newly revealed symbols throughout the construction process of the Gyeonggi-do Library.
A provincial official stated, "We hope that the unveiled library brand will spread nationwide recognition of the Gyeonggi-do Library as the representative library of Gyeonggi Province," and added, "We will share the major processes of the library construction with residents to create a provincial library by the residents, for the residents."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi-do Library, the representative provincial library of Gyeonggi Province to be located in Gyeonggi Convergence Town, Gwanggyo New Town, Iui-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon City, will have a total floor area of 27,775㎡ with four basement floors and five above-ground floors. The project budget is 110.1 billion KRW. It will house the largest collection in the province with 900,000 volumes, with construction scheduled to start within the year and the opening targeted for 2025.
