[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyuk-jong) announced on the 11th that Professor Lim Hyung-taek of the Department of Youth Counseling and Lifelong Education and Gonghana Cooperative are planning and operating the Nam-gu Youth Political School.
Professor Lim was recently selected for the ‘2022 Pleasant Imagination, Youth Political School for a Happy Society’ contest project, hosted by the Direct Democracy Village Republic National Assembly in collaboration with the social welfare organization Welfare State Society.
Leading the distribution of the ‘Palm-sized Constitution Book’ embodying the spirit of the democratic republic, Professor Lim held the first lecture on the 10th at Gwangju Nam-gu Youth Warak, targeting local youth and residents, under the theme ‘Social Great Transformation and the Role of Youth.’
In the lecture, Professor Lim introduced the history of Korea’s dreams and challenges for a grand society, including the Donghak Peasant Revolution and the March 1st Movement. He also promised to form a youth-centered social change practice study group and provide mentor support at the event.
Meanwhile, the Youth Political School is operated as a learning space to deliver basic political knowledge to local youth and residents, empathize with the issues faced by the current youth generation, and create a political environment that encourages active participation.
The Youth Political School conducts lectures and discussion-style education every other Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
On the 24th, Park Hye-sook, co-representative of the Welfare State Society, will meet with youth and residents under the theme ‘Solutions to Local Youth Issues: A Morning Center Without Loneliness or Worry About Meals for Youth.’
