[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The Korean Council of University Professors (HanGyoHyup) has demanded the resignation of No Jeonghee, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, in connection with the controversy over poor management during the 20th presidential election management process.

On the 11th, HanGyoHyup stated in a press release, "We hold Chairperson No Jeonghee fully responsible for the election management failure in this presidential election and demand her resignation." They said, "In this election, the Election Commission violated constitutional fundamental rights such as direct and secret voting, committed election law violations including arbitrary movement of ballot boxes, and improperly operated the Election Commission's Public Opinion Survey Deliberation Committee." They argued, "With local elections approaching, Chairperson No must take responsibility and resign to prevent second and third election management failures and errors." Furthermore, HanGyoHyup emphasized, "The Election Commission must seriously acknowledge the poor management and operation from early voting to the main voting and take active follow-up measures," and "We strongly demand the establishment of measures to prevent recurrence to maintain strict neutrality in the upcoming local elections."

Earlier, citizen groups have filed complaints with the National Police Agency and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office citing poor vote management by the Election Commission. On the 10th, the Citizen Committee for the Protection of the Livelihood of Ordinary People filed a complaint with the National Police Agency against Kim Sehwan, Secretary General of the Central Election Commission, and four other Election Commission officials for violations of the Public Official Election Act and abuse of authority.
