Russia Begins Withdrawal of Embassy Staff from Ukraine Amid Fears of Imminent Invasion Amid rising military tensions between Russia and Ukraine, on the 13th (local time), Russian forces conducted shooting drills in the southern Rostov region adjacent to Ukraine. [Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Russia has recently begun withdrawing personnel from its embassy in Ukraine. The recent conflict between the two countries has escalated to an extreme level.


According to major foreign media on the 17th (local time), on the 5th of this month, 18 Russian diplomats and their families staying at the Russian embassy in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, boarded a bus bound for Moscow.


Subsequently, about 30 people also withdrew from the Russian consulates in Kyiv and Lviv, located in western Ukraine, and left for Moscow. An official who requested anonymity added that diplomats at two other Russian consulates were also instructed to prepare to leave Ukraine.


Currently, Russia is reported to have deployed 60 artillery battalions and approximately 77,000 troops in the border area with Ukraine.
