[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Gyeongsang National University held the "9th Preliminary Pharmacist Oath Ceremony" on December 17 at 11 a.m. in the main auditorium on the 2nd floor of the BNIT R&D Center at the Gajwa Campus, where the College of Pharmacy is located, to cultivate pharmaceutical talents.
The Preliminary Pharmacist Oath Ceremony is an event held to help pharmacy students understand the ethics and calling of pharmacists as prospective pharmaceutical professionals before starting practical training at medical institution pharmacies and local pharmacies, and to strengthen their determination to enhance the honor and prestige of Gyeongsang National University.
On this day, about 50 people, including 32 fifth-year pharmacy students undergoing practical training and faculty and staff of the College of Pharmacy, attended. The event lasted for one hour and proceeded in the order of opening remarks, national anthem, congratulatory speeches, distribution of trainee name tags, presentation of the pharmacist statue (藥師像), oath-taking ceremony, and closing remarks.
In particular, the pharmacist statue presentation time served as an opportunity for students to reaffirm the writings they composed during the period when they first contemplated their sense of mission and social responsibility as pharmacists after admission, thereby strengthening their initial resolve and setting their direction as pharmacists.
At the event, the faculty of the College of Pharmacy personally attended to support and encourage the preliminary pharmacists.
Dean Yoon Hyun-ok of the College of Pharmacy said in her encouragement speech, “All trainees will receive professional practical training as preliminary pharmacists at their training institutions, but I hope this training period also serves as an opportunity to thoroughly understand the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals.” She added, “Since the practical training schedule is taking place during the spread of the Omicron variant virus, I urge everyone to strictly follow quarantine guidelines to ensure the training is conducted safely.”
Meanwhile, the 32 fifth-year students who took the preliminary pharmacist oath will receive various practical training to acquire the professional skills required to become healthcare professionals at 22 training sites, including Gyeongsang National University Hospital and nearby hospitals and local pharmacies in Jinju City, from December 20 until July 15 of next year, and will learn the attitudes necessary to become pharmacists.
