[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced on the 17th that it will promote the first hydrogen hybrid project in Korea utilizing biogas generated from food waste. In this regard, a joint development agreement for project promotion was signed with Jeonju City, Jeonju City Council, Taeyoung Construction, and Jeonbuk City Gas.
KHNP will be the largest shareholder and oversee the overall management of the project, Jeonju City will support biogas stabilization and permits, Jeonju City Council will provide administrative and financial support, Taeyoung Construction will be in charge of design, procurement, and construction (EPC), and Jeonbuk City Gas will supply city gas (LNG).
KHNP plans to start construction of the fuel cell power plant in July next year and complete it in the second half of 2023, producing an annual 150,000 MWh of electricity, enough to supply about 13% of Jeonbuk Province’s demand and approximately 60,000 households. Additionally, 200 tons of hydrogen will be produced and used to supply hydrogen refueling stations.
