New 500 Won and 1000 Won Regular Postage Stamps on Sale from the 17th The Korea Post will issue new regular stamps worth 500 won and 1000 won starting from the 17th.


[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post announced on the 16th that it will issue two newly designed regular stamps of 500 won and 1000 won starting from the 17th.


Since September, Korea Post has issued new regular stamps (430 won, 520 won, 2530 won) and regular stamps with current currency denominations (10 won, 50 won, 100 won) to reflect the increased postal rates. Additionally, two more regular stamps with currency denominations (500 won, 1000 won) will be issued with new designs.


The 500 won stamp features the , meaning "morning tree growing in the mountains." Traditionally, our ancestors used the fruit of the Sansa tree (Sansanamu fruit) to make delicacies such as rice cakes, liquor, and candied fruit, and it was also used as a medicinal herb effective for treating diarrhea, indigestion, and atopy.


The 1000 won stamp features , Korea's unique script created by King Sejong the Great, the 4th king of the Joseon Dynasty. King Sejong designed the initial consonants based on human speech organs, created vowels using the three elements of Cheonjiin (heaven, earth, and human), and used the initial consonants again as final consonants (batchim). In 1446, he promulgated the 'Hunminjeongeum,' meaning "the correct sounds to teach the people."


Regular stamps can be purchased at nearby post offices.
