[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] Kyung Kye-hyun, the newly appointed president of Samsung Electronics' DS (Device Solutions) division, which leads the semiconductor business, emphasized "communication" along with an organizational restructuring aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the system semiconductor business. This is interpreted as a determination to maximize synergy by enhancing communication that can boost innovation momentum to the fullest at the same time as the organizational restructuring.


According to the business community on the 14th, President Kyung posted a message on the company portal on the same day, urging employees with three key points. He asked to create an environment where employees can work with conviction, clearly define each employee's authority and responsibility so that everyone in the organization can work with a sense of responsibility. He also emphasized that all organizations should work based on data to maximize synergy with surrounding organizations and business units.


President Kyung's commitment to communication extends to meetings with employees. On the 15th, he will hold his first online meeting since taking office to directly communicate with employees.


When he was president of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Kyung operated a program called "Thursday Talk" (Sseoltok), a free communication session with employees every Thursday. Samsung Electronics is also conducting a naming contest among employees to create a similar benchmarking program.


Regarding the recent organizational restructuring, President Kyung explained, "The focus was on accelerating innovation for future preparation and strengthening the competitiveness of the system semiconductor business, which is the next-generation growth engine."


Samsung Electronics recently established a "Corporate Planning team" within the Foundry Business Division of the DS division to reinforce system semiconductors. This organization is known to manage overall business strategy, customer discovery, and production capacity (capability) operations.


Samsung Electronics is accelerating efforts to achieve its goal of becoming the number one system semiconductor company by 2030, including deciding to build a second foundry plant worth 20 trillion won in Taylor City, USA. The company is expected to form a separate organization to undertake detailed tasks for the construction and operation of the US plant.


An industry official said, "President Kyung's emphasis on communication to employees appears to be aimed at maximizing the synergy of overall changes, including organizational restructuring," adding, "New attempts for this are expected to invigorate the organization."
