[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 9th that agricultural extension officer Yu Baek-rim of the Agricultural Technology Center received the Grand Prize in the Rural Development category at the '2021 Korea Agriculture Awards' ceremony held at the Suwon City Farmers' Hall on the 8th.

The award ceremony, jointly hosted by the Korea Rural Leaders Central Association and the Farmers Newspaper, was organized to discover figures from various fields who contributed to the development of agriculture and rural areas and the protection of farmers' rights, and to widely publicize excellent cases.

This prestigious award selects recipients through evaluation in five categories: rural development, national agricultural policy, local agricultural policy, farmers, and agribusiness.

Officer Yu has dedicated 25 years of public service, focusing on developing and disseminating new income crops, improving strawberry cultivation environments, supplying water for facility strawberries, and creating functional anti-aging baby vegetable complexes.

Additionally, Yu has led efforts to strengthen horticultural agricultural competitiveness by directly conducting cultivation technique lectures for horticultural farmers, including agricultural learning groups and research associations.

In particular, Yu was recognized for significantly improving farmers' cultivation techniques and income by providing nutrient solution composition tables to strawberry farmers, Sancheong-gun's representative agricultural product, offering on-site cultivation technique consultations, and expanding field technical support such as environmental analysis, physiological disorder, and pest and disease diagnosis services.

Yu Baek-rim said, "I am honored to receive such a great award. It is thanks to the support and encouragement of my fellow public officials and the active help of local farmers." He added, "I will continue to do my best to improve farmers' income and strengthen competitiveness without losing my initial resolve."

Meanwhile, the Korea Rural Leaders Central Association began its activities in 1947 as 4H adult volunteer leaders with the goal of rural reconstruction and revival. It is an agricultural organization leading scientific farming and the promotion of rural culture based on the spirit of friendship, service, and creativity.
