Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) is sharing warmth by operating ‘Love Donation Day (One-day Tea House)’ in each neighborhood to help neighbors in need during the year-end and New Year season.

This event is part of the ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ project hosted by the Seoul Community Chest of Korea and was prepared through local public-private cooperation to assist neighbors in difficulty.

The donation days in each neighborhood started on the 3rd with Junggok 4-dong and Guui 2-dong and will continue until the 21st.

On the 7th, the ‘Love Donation Day’ hosted by the Gwangjang-dong Professional Organizations Federation was held in the auditorium of the Gwangjang-dong Community Center.

The event was conducted in a walking-through manner, limiting the number of people entering each corner to maintain social distancing.

The venue was equipped with donation boxes, a photo zone with angel drawings, and a healing zone where participants could write hopeful messages, allowing them to enjoy various activities.

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I thank the residents who participated in the donation day with warm hearts despite the difficult times due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” adding, “Although the weather is cold, my heart feels warm knowing that the funds raised through this event will be delivered to neighbors in need.”

The funds collected from each neighborhood through this event will be donated to the Seoul branch of the Community Chest of Korea and used to support marginalized neighbors.

On the afternoon of the 3rd at 2 p.m., a meaningful event was held at the Cheongnyangni-dong Community Center.

About ten sanitation workers belonging to Jeil Environment, a cleaning service company located in Dongdaemun-gu, donated 1.5 million KRW collected little by little through a small group to be used for neighbors in need in Cheongnyangni-dong as part of the ‘2022 Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ project.

About ten sanitation workers working for Jeil Environment, which manages five neighborhoods in Dongdaemun-gu, have been carrying out various good deeds through their small group.

Usually, they collect scrap paper and empty bottles during work and share them with elderly scrap collectors in the area. Recently, they also supported insulin pumps for children with diabetes. Additionally, every winter, they continue to donate funds to help local residents facing difficulties.

Lee Min-su, Deputy Manager of Jeil Environment managing the Cheongnyangni-dong area, said, “When working near Cheongnyangni Wholesale Market or around the old Hongneung residential area, I often felt sorry seeing the difficult lives of elderly residents,” adding, “Although we sanitation workers do not live affluent lives, I hope the funds we donated can help neighbors in greater need have a warmer winter.”

Hwang Sang-jun, Head of Cheongnyangni-dong, said, “The hard work sanitation workers do from evening to dawn while everyone else is asleep is a task that must be done by someone. Their sincere support is a priceless gift that cannot be measured in money,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that this grateful intention is not wasted and is distributed evenly to families in our community facing hardships.”
