This Year's Top Gun of the Sea is the 'Jeonbukham'

[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] In the evaluation of the combat power of naval warships, the Jeonbuk-class frigate (FFG, 2500t class) belonging to the 3rd Fleet Command received the highest score.

According to the Navy on the 6th, the Jeonbuk-class frigate was selected as the '2021 Top Gunnery Warship' in the gunnery excellence warship selection system implemented since 1988.

This is the first time the Jeonbuk-class frigate has been selected as the Top Gun in the gunnery excellence warship selection, known as the "Top Gun of the Sea." This year, excellent ships were selected through the first round of competitive shooting hosted by each fleet and squadron, followed by a shooting competition held from September to October under the Navy Operations Command, where the final ranking was determined.

The submarine awarded the top gunnery excellence was the Yun Bong-gil-class (SS-II, 1800t class), which received the highest score in torpedo firing training. The top flying squadron was the 631st Flying Squadron (UH-60), which achieved the highest scores in anti-submarine bomb dropping and machine gun shooting evaluations. The top warship and submarine receive the Presidential Unit Citation, excellent warships receive the Prime Minister's Unit Citation, and the top flying squadron, excellent fast combat ships, and excellent fast patrol boat squadrons receive the Minister of National Defense Unit Citation.

Commander Kim Min-jae (Lieutenant Colonel) of the Jeonbuk-class frigate said, "This award is the result of the crew uniting toward a single goal and demonstrating the highest level of teamwork," adding, "We will maintain the ship's combat readiness and continue the tradition of the invincible Navy that always wins when it fights."
