At the 4th Hydrogen Economy Committee, the 'Strategic Deployment Plan for Hydrogen Charging Stations' Announced
Charging Stations, Expanded from 'Currently 131 Units → 450 Units by 2025'
Priority Placement in Municipalities Without Charging Stations
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] The government has decided to install hydrogen charging stations in all cities, counties, and districts nationwide by 2025. To achieve this, the current 131 charging stations will be increased to 450 units in four years.
On the 26th, the Ministry of Environment announced the "Strategic Placement Plan for Hydrogen Charging Stations" at the Hydrogen Economy Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum at Lotte Hotel Seoul.
This plan is the first implementation plan for the next five years (2021?2025), established based on the Air Quality Preservation Act. The main goal of the placement plan by 2025 is to expand infrastructure evenly so that hydrogen vehicle users can access hydrogen charging stations anytime and anywhere. A Ministry of Environment official explained, "We established the hydrogen charging station placement plan considering regional distribution, hydrogen vehicle adoption performance and plans, user accessibility, and traffic volume."
Currently, most hydrogen charging stations are concentrated in major cities such as the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul, and metropolitan cities. There are no charging stations in 164 basic local governments. The government plans to build at least one hydrogen charging station in principle in all 226 cities, counties, and districts nationwide by 2025. To this end, charging stations will be placed on public institution sites, and areas without charging stations will be given priority when selecting private subsidy project operators. By expanding charging infrastructure, the government plans to increase the number of hydrogen vehicles from the current level of 19,000 units to 200,000 units by 2025. The plan also includes a goal to increase the number of hydrogen charging stations nationwide to 1,200 units by 2040.
The government's goal is to establish 450 charging stations by 2025, 660 by 2030, and 1,200 by 2040 (cumulative) nationwide through this strategic placement. In this case, by 2030, hydrogen charging stations will be accessible within 20 minutes in major cities, and by 2040, within 15 minutes.
