[AKYUNG Poll] Next Presidential Candidate Support: Yoon 42.7% vs Lee 34.4%

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] A survey revealed that Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, is leading Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, beyond the margin of error as the most suitable candidate for the next president.

On the 23rd, Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion poll from the 20th to 21st targeting 1,025 voters aged 18 and older nationwide. Candidate Yoon took the lead with 42.7%. He was ahead of Candidate Lee, who received 34.4% support, by a margin of 8.2 percentage points.

Following them were Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, with 4.5%, Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party with 2.8%, and Kim Dong-yeon with 2.1%. Other candidates accounted for 3.6%, none 8.0%, and don’t know 1.8%.

Compared to the same survey conducted in the first week of November, Candidate Yoon’s support rose by 1.3 percentage points, and Candidate Lee’s by 1.2 percentage points, maintaining a similar gap between the two candidates.

Candidate Yoon led Candidate Lee in all age groups except those in their 30s and 40s, and in all regions except the Honam area.

Among the non-affiliated voters who answered that they have no supporting party or were unsure, Candidate Yoon’s support was 26.5%, which was 11.9 percentage points higher than Candidate Lee’s 14.6%. However, the combined percentage of “none” and “don’t know” was the highest at 40.5%.

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 20th to 21st targeting voters aged 18 and older nationwide, with 1,025 respondents and an overall response rate of 7.5%. The survey method was 100% mobile phone virtual numbers via wireless ARS. The sample was extracted with weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
